About Curry Moving & Storage, Inc.

Curry Moving & Storage, Inc. began as a household goods moving company in Parkersburg, West Virginia in the early 1920s. John Thurman Curry started JT Curry Transfer with just two horses and a wagon. JT would haul merchandise from the train station to various places of business throughout the town. When JT died in 1941, the company went dormant for several years before his son, Earl, revitalized the company in 1947. He added a small storage building and renamed the company Curry Transfer and Storage.

In 1962, Earl’s daughter Shirley, and her husband Jack Mearns, moved to Charlotte Harbor with their three children, Debby, Jeff, and Julie. The family purchased what was then a Clippinger Storage retaining family tradition and renaming the business Curry Moving & Storage, Inc. The company was initially housed in one building on five acres of ground along Harborview Road. Since then, it has expanded to include a large metal building with full containerized storage and four mini warehouses. The original building has also undergone two additions.

In 2003, Shirley and Jack’s son Jeff and his wife, Diane, purchased the company. As the fourth generation of the family in the moving and storage business, they continued the family’s original ideals of honesty and hard work as the main tenet of the business.

When not fulfilling Charlotte County’s moving needs, father and son turn to their true passion: hunting and fishing. Shortly after moving to Florida, Jack Mearns became a guide at Babcock Ranch. He would take out of town guests out on quail and turkey hunting expeditions on his hunting rig with 7-8 bird dogs. Jack shared his love of nature and hunting at Babcock Ranch with his son Jeff.
